Baby, I’m amazed

Something amazing happened to me yesterday, and it will probably never happen to me again. I submitted one of my short stories to the editor of an ezine, and he wrote me back the same day saying he wanted to publish it!

He even said it was brilliant.

I guess it’s a sort of fantasy story, and it’s one I’ve liked for a long time. In the story, certain sculptures around my home town come to life and get to pursue their own interests for a while. Pretty much art is in their midst — in their face — but the local folks just don’t get it. As this is happening, I’m making snarky comments about the lack of appreciation many locals have for art and history.

The problem with the story had been that it is too local. Only readers around my home town would know the references to the sculpture and the local history, and I could never find a publication that was suitable for it.

Somehow, though, the stars converged and this obvious local magazine occurred to me. I wish I had thought of it a long time ago. So the editor liked it enough to write back to me. Sure gives me a charge when that happens.

I’ll be sure to post a link to it here when it is published.
