commenting issue

I don’t normally like making these kinds of meta posts, but an issue is blazing through the WordPress community, and it’s causing some anguish.

Recently the WordPress overlords made a change in the commenting system for its blogs. As I understand it, if you have a WordPress account, you must be currently logged into it in order to leave a comment on another WordPress blog. I suppose this is intended to screen out spammers and robo-commenters (which may be a good thing in election season here in the U.S.).

Please don’t think this change is any of my doing. I don’t see it as a hardship so much as a surprise. Anyway, if you’ve been having problems leaving your brilliant comments here, that may be the reason.
