enough with the dithering already!

I think the short story I’ve been working on, and working on, and still working on, the one I’ve called “Superman” is pretty much ready. My beta reader gave me his thoughts, and much of what he had to say found its way into the story’s latest adjustments. I’ve read it and re-read it. I’ve read it aloud and in a whisper. I’ve chewed on each sentence and tasted each word (spitting out a few in the process). I’ve even tried to see how this story would fit into the Fathers and Sons cycle I’ve been babbling about here recently, finding whatever adjustments I can to anticipate that eventual corpus.

And so my point, gentle reader, is that the damned thing is ready to begin sending out. I can dither no further. I must belay the delay. Neither hesitate nor procrastinate. I must begin looking for markets and screwing up the courage to submit it. I’ve said that I want to aim high with this story — it’s one of my “serious” pieces — and so I feel as though I have a lot of ego on the line.

And I don’t intend to be shy either. I think I’m going to send out quite a few submissions and get the thing out there. Wish me luck (and check in next week to see if I’ve actually acted on my lofty ambition).
